as many of you know.... all the buildings
at the Inn were completely destroyed by the great Cedar Fire of
2003...
the fire moved in sometime in the afternoon of the 28th of October
with a fierce fire tornado
that took down five of the neighboring homes as well as ours...
the plants and wildlife suffered even more....
we escaped with the seven cats, a few material things...
and our love of the mountain
we will rebuild, and have
great plans for the new Artists' Loft, scheduled for completion
in late 2004...
the new loft will be a special retreat for two to four persons,
with views from the peaks of the Cuyamacas
to the islands off the coast of Southern California... a new approach
to bed and breakfast is planned,
as well as a separate artist's studio for working artists to use
as they like...
as the woods and animals
have suffered even greater loss than we, there will
be ongoing programs to restore and revive the santuary... guests
are invited to participate
and lend ideas to the process, as they are moved...
we will also be offering a variety of workshops in the arts...
photography, printmaking, drawing, writing, pastel.....many more....
one thing is to be remembered:
the spirit of Julian, and of the Artists' Loft
did not perish... we and the town are much as they were, more
sober, more humble
but much wiser for the meeting with Great Nature...
we will add words and photos
to these pages as we progress... starting with the
cleanup in the next few weeks... and just moving along as we did,
and will once again, with
the barn/studio......
you must be the light you
wish to see....
One doesn't come here so much to fall asleep
as to be awakened...
